Ocean Park’s Billion Dollar Expansion

With it being one of HK’s most popular tourist attractions, I would not say I have ever had an atrocious time but after 15 visits in my lifetime, you generally start to despise the thought of searching for yet another motionless panda or lining up for those death trap cable cars. So when my sister and her boyfriend informed me of their last day out plans before returning to university would be spent there, I was as excited as Oscar Pitorious is innocent. However, I could not have been more wrong.

Boasting a 5.5 Billion dollar expansion, Ocean Park has recently opened its newly furbished doors to the public (I say public, What I really mean is 95% mainlanders) with four new zones including a thrilling new rollercoaster. I was pleased to see so many improvements, which left me feeling strangely patriotic. Fellow Hong Kongers, below are the reasons why you should give our favourite theme park another go.

An increase in politeness – I almost had to do a double take when the entrance staff ran up to me with their gleeful smiles, wishing me ‘a great day full of fun’. Hong Kong may be the city that never sleeps but it certainly is not the city that always smiles.

More efficient queuing systems – More box offices, less time queuing for tickets. OP has also introduced a fun new sound system in all ride queues’ playing chart hits. Raving while waiting? Genius.

New aquarium – Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Frank Gehry. An awe-inspiring, vibrant, glow in the dark aquatic experience. You cannot miss it.

– ‘The Hair-Raiser’ – suspended over the south china sea, this scenic floorless ride reaches a speed of 88km/h. Piece of advice, make sure you do not need the toilet before hand.

Better layout – Each zone flows into the next leaving more space and less crowds.

However, the one thing I would have to say lacks in improvement is most definitely their limited range of food. If you’re looking for any healthy options, bring a packed lunch.

Overall, Any place that makes me feel like a little kid again is worth my money and time. And sorry Disneyland, You don’t even come close.
